So it's just the downloading of updates? Not sure if you can still do this but have you tried manually doing it from
Windows update website?

I think you misunderstood my babbling. If I click on Windows Update it shows a notification that there is an update available and I can select and download. The issue is that the update should have already been downloaded and ready to install; instead, I have manually do the download.

I'm guessing you've checked in control panel, windows update, clicked changed settings and set to auto download and install, or auto download then confirm to install. If not that should fix your issue, if you've already done that I have no idea lol. Is this a stand alone Machine or part of a domain? Not sure why you would be messing with group policy.

NoelDP, I am a little confused on this, I am running Win8 also and I don't have any problem with it, so why is there an "fix" for all these OSs? I don't ever remember having any issues with XP (never had Vista).

I have download several of MS "fixes" to find out they don't work. As for the SFC /scannow, I have 2 machines running Win7 HP and both of them have the same problem and neither have any issues.

Perhaps you have the same problem because you're running the same software, which has broken Windows :)

Which file in the CBS folder is so huge? - we really only need the CBS.log and CheckSUR.log files for the moment
