I just discovered yesterday that Windows is not updating since october last year.
That was when I upgraded to Windows 10.
I had severall issues with Windows 10 and decided to return to Windows 7 but I did not do this using Windows but returned to an image I of my system that I had made with Acronis just before the upgrade.

I have tried almost everything I read on the internet:
Ran sfc/ scannow
Tried to run System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [October 2014]
Added keys to registry:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UX]
"IsConvergedUpdateStackEnabled"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UX\Settings]
"UxOption"=dword:00000000

After this I retried running System Update Readiness tool and it worked.
Windows update still not running (hangs at 0%)
So I decided to install the updates one by one.
Even that does not work - I download the msu file to my pc and start it and get message "searching for updates on the computer"
Why does it have to search?????
I finaly tried installing an update using cmd.
I get the same message - see screenshot

Thank you Torchwood.
To begin let me say that yesterday I selected 4 Windows update from 13/10/15 en let it run all night. The update did succeed. This morning I then selected the updates from 10/11 and these had been installed after 2 hours.
Again like before - the update remained at 0% when I looked after 1 hour. So it seems the Update is working but very slowly and without showing the progress.

Another thing:
Windows 10 update is proposed in the uptional updates but is checked by default.
So you must not forget to go to uptional updates and uncheck this before updating. Microsoft really seems to be determined to push us to Windows 10!!!

Here is the Windows Genuine and Activating issue report:

I am more and more convinced that it is Windows 10 update causing all these issues.
Trying to find how I can get rid of it.

remove W10

Hi Amazone,
Follow this link to dissable W10 upgrade.
Upgrade to Windows 10 Update - Enable or Disable in Windows 7 or 8.1 - Windows 10 Forums
Method 1 as your running home premium.

Yep its more than likely causing the slowdown.

Have a look at the last 2 pages of this link as well, shows which updates are W10 related.(Hide them)

http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-...windows-10-upgrade-updates-windows-7-8-a.html

Most of on this forum who DO NOT want W10 have set updates to LET ME DECIDE.

The report looks fine nothing in there slowing down updates.
On a side note did your comp come with W7, if it did, youve wasted an OEM system builder key.

What do you mean by this Roy?
In my family I am the one who installs/cleans and (tries to) solve all computer problems.
I still worked with Vista laptop and desktop myself.
Family tends to buy the newer pc's so I already had to get familiar with Windows 8.
Now that they want to upgrade to Windows 10 I decided to buy a cheap refurbished Dell laptop with Windows 7 and possibility to upgrade to Windows 10.

Myself I like Windows 7 very much. I was able to install all the programs I run on my Vista computers.
For safety I took an image of Windows 7 before I upgraded to Windows. I tested Windows 10 a bit but do not like it so on this pc I returned to Windows 7 and use it now instead of my Vista pc

Sorry - long explanation to tell that this is a refurbished Desktop that came with Windows 7

As for your suggestions:
Whilst waiting for your response I have been looking here in the forum and I already stumbled on both threads.

The second thread is very long and I have not read all. I got to page 16 and then read the 2 last.
I uninstalled all of the Updates that are suggested there.

After doing that Windows 10 upgrade was still proposed in the optional updates and still checked!!!

This thread also led me to your second link and I already changed the regystry adding the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate key (set to 1)
After all this I just restarted the PC and had to initiate a new search for updates - this is still extremely slow (30 minutes already)
So I don't know if Windows10 Upgrade will now not be proposed anymore.
Will come back here as oon as I know

OK Windows 10 is not proposed anymore in Optional.

But : 3021917 3035583 although removed and hidden are proposed again.
I am not alone with this issue.
Will monitor and come back here
Meanwhile I am updating by date. I now started 8/12 Updates at 16h46 still no progress shown on progress bar.

I finished installing all updates 8/12 took about one hour - the 12/1 update (the last one) took 30 minutes.

Now after restart another update is proposed:KB 3102810 and here is stated that this update solves issues with slow search and update of windows update.
Strange thing however that somewhere in How to remove Windows 10 upgrade updates in Windows 7 and 8 this update is said not to be installed??
Will post in that thread about this

To be complete about this issue I would like to ask something about what is proposed here:
Upgrade to Windows 10 Update - Enable or Disable in Windows 7 or 8.1 - Windows 10 Forums

I used method 1 and in fact all my problems are solved.
In a dutch forum other register changes were proposed:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\GWX]
"DisableGWX"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate]
"DisableOSUpgrade"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\OSUpgrade]
"AllowOSUpgrade"=dword:00000000
"ReservationsAllowed"=dword:00000000

What do you think of these?
On my pc this is still set at 1:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\OSUpgrade] "AllowOSUpgrade"=dword:00000000

Hi Amazone,

Re Wasted key, You answered my question >> I bought a Refubished <<, they upgraded with a new key.

As for the Dutch forum, There are various options depending on which version of W7, my info was based on your Home premium set-up, Use method 1, there are additional instructions for Pro/Ultimate/Enterpise.

Key

Hi Amazone,

In your case its a bit of a grey area, it will depend on the answers to the following

The state in which you recieved it from the refurbisher, and your actions

was the System builderOEM key already on it when you received it ?.

If not is there a sticker on the base of your comp,
stating W7 home premium, with another key on it, DO NOT POST that key

Did YOU purchase the System builder OEM key

If the latter is the case, and the comp came with W7 pre-installed, then you do have a spare Key,
which you can use to update,>> via a clean install <<, any comp you like as their not tied to a specific machine.

Roy
Note
One key per machine, if you want to use the SB OEM key on another comp, then you will have to revert back to the sticker code on the refurb.
