Had a bad SP1 issue and ran the visual basic script that apparently fixed that

but now Windows Update only shows #elementmoduleheadertext# and a blank window when I open it

I have tried multiple MSWU fixits and nothing seems to be working

is there anything else I can do for this?

thanks!

Mr pc,

* Our mind reading skills have slowed down over the holiday period.

* We need more details re your "bad SP1" issue.

Did you get any Error messages?
What else can you tell us about " the issue"?

* Your System Specs should also be filled in to enable us to better help you.

FYI.

How do I reset Windows Update components?

thanks - this is not my machine but here is the initial error and specs

error:

Error 0xc0000034 - Service Pack update stuck while booting up

I did get past that after running a vbs script (sorry forgot what it is). So now the machine appears to be free of SP1 (not displayed in System) and booting fine. But WU is still showing the #elementmoduleheadertext# or just a red X shield.

Action center isn't prompting for updates or anything as well...

There are no restore points before the SP1 failure.

thanks

well the machine isn't mine and is owned by a not so savvy pc user so no restore point was available. I also read that the SP1 failed update could possibly wipe out previous restore points, not sure if this is true though.

but unfortunately there were none to be found.

The machine did not come with a recovery disc/installation cd. Just a recovery partition as most are found with now. It appears the owner did not create a disc which is often prompted to do prior to using the machine.

I did try a reg cleaner but it was a dud - know of any free and reliable options?

So - I have no installation disc available for these options

but thank you for your continued interest - I did contact MS and have a trouble ticket supposedly open but nothing from them yet.

any further input is appreciated

Ugh! re no Win 7 disk.
Some one has learnt {learned} a bitter lesson.
I am not an exponent of Reg Cleaners.
Looks like the choice is MS to the rescue or a restore to the factory default.
