Windows Update error 80070003

If you receive Windows Update error 80070003 while checking for updates, you need to remove the temporary files that Windows uses to identify updates for your computer. To remove the temporary files, stop the Windows Update service, delete the temporary update files, restart the Windows Update service, and then try to check for Windows updates again.

i did all that, but i get the same error...!

i dont know if it's relevant, but when windows updates downloads the updates, the progress goes "normally" from 0% to 11% and then suddenly starts to install. I wonder if updates are downloaded properly/entirely?

Maybe this Microsoft Knowledge Base article could give you more info?

I've had this problem once, for me it was enough to do as told in the article I mentioned earlier.

You could try deleting the update files that were already downloaded.

Then run update again.

while trying to delete previously installed updates, i found out that the list is corrupted (only silverlight is in the list!) and moreover, when i go to "turn windows feature on/off", that list is also empty!
that brought me to this:

The "Windows Features" dialog box is empty in Windows 7 or Windows Vista, or you receive an error message that includes the following code when you try to use Windows Update: "0x80073712"

i ran the sfc, which found currupted files and stated to have fixed those. however, the issues are not solved (The "Windows Features" dialog box is empty, and i cant install updates).

This is getting more scary... any other idea?

thanks!

I'm starting to think a repair install could be the best possibility to solve this issue.
