Hi all,

I've been having a weird issue with Windows Update. Ever since around 8/15/12, all updates are failing twice--on shut down, and on reboot, causing a second reboot. I always get the option to do my windows update when I shut down, and I now have to run the cmd line 'shutdown -s' command or hit the physical button on my tower in order to bypass this attempted install. The error code is 80070020.

My WindowsUpdate.log is here:

The only other "oddity" is that my Program Files environment variable, at one point, was pointed towards my E: drive, when I had a 60GB SSD. It is now pointed toward my c:\ drive again. This caused some initial issues with Windows Media Player and such, but I've had no issues for over a month since.

Thanks!

Try restarting your computer, while disabling most of your startup items then checking for updates again.
You can do so by Start>msconfig>Startup tab
In there uncheck anything that may have been installed before 8/15/12, and or that seems suspicious or you just dont want to run at startup.
Also try running the attached tool.
