Windows Update Error 80072EE2

I have a notebook ACER 5738G Which came with preinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium x64.
I've been getting windows updates automatically in my university hostels through proxy and they worked fine.

Now at home I have a DSL Connection which has gotten no proxy and my windows updates fail. Help would be highly appreciated

I would also like to mention that I have tried some methods which resulted in a nought.

Reinstalled my Ethernet Adapter driver (Failed)
Allowed the update and microsoft sites in the INTERNET EXPLORER OPTIONS list (Failed)
Cleaned registry using REGCLEANER (Failed)

I am in dire need of help..

Thank you for your help Rich, but I've tried these methods but in vain...

I don't understand when I go to university, and update via a proxy it works fine and doesn't work when updating with a DSL connection...

Thank you very much for your help Rich. I tried this also but I think there was something wrong with my windows and I couldn't figure out what it was.

However, I wanted to give feedback. I formatted C drive and installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64. The updates went smooth. I don't know what was the problem.
