I have the same problem vr4gt is having I think. I am unable to install the last batch of Microsoft updates. I allready ran the readiness tool and the hotfix suggested by Microsoft, and I have tried every other suggestion I can find online except for starting over with a "clean installation".

Here is a list of the 17 updates I cant get to install.
Any help would be appreciated.

* Have you a System Restore Point created prior to any problems you are now experiencing that you could roll back to?

* Have you checked in Event Viewer ?
Start - Event Viewer - Windows Logs - System & Application.
Check for any red error messages to do with each KB problem.

*What is listed { as regards your problem} in Windows Update - View Update History.

*Clean out App data / local / temp.
Start - Run - type in %temp% - ok - organize - select all - organize - delete { note you may be asked to skip some - that is ok.

*SFC

* With error code 0x800B0100, the correct fix is the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT).
Please download and install SURT from here:
What is the System Update Readiness Tool?

Re your update settings -
* I suggest you change them to notify you but let you choose when to download them.
* Do a few at a time only rather than "oodles" at once.

* Always make sure you have a current system restore point prior to downloading anything.

* Sometimes in order to get updates to install properly, you may need to do them manually.

* Visit Microsoft's Download Center:
Security updates & tools - Microsoft Download Center
Search for each update code. {starts with the letters "KB" and followed by a set of numbers.}
Click the link for the download.
You'll need to accept the agreement and then click Continue.
Repeat this process for each download that Windows Updates was unable to install.
Run Microsoft update again, click Check for updates. Hopefully it will show that you are completely patched.

I also ran a Microsoft fix, one that you have the choice of running in aggresive mode. I ran it in aggresive mode, now I am going to try running the updates manually, one at a time. I will post my results.

KB2579686 - This installed OK.
KB2518869 - This installed but needs rebooted.
KB2572077 - This also installed OK.
KB2529073 - This update is not applicable to your computer.
KB2567680 - This was another update for XP, but not for Windows 7. "There is not enough storage available for this application. Update failed to install."
KB982018 - This is for x86 32 bit versions of Windows 7 but not for x64 bit versions. The file was not able to install.

It looks like the only problem I have is that the update manager is trying to install updates that are not compatable with Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. I hope I dont continually have problems like this.

Nice to hear that things are improving re Updates.

RE -

It looks like the only problem I have is that the update manager is trying to install updates that are not compatable with Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. I hope I dont continually have problems like this.

At times we are offered updates that may not be required by our system.
I have noticed in Update History they appear as installed successfully.
However on checking Event Viewer it is stated that some were not required.

Again to reiterate..
Re your update settings -
* I suggest you change them to notify you but let you choose when to download them.
* Do a few at a time only rather than "oodles" at once.
* Reboot
* Then should there be problems it is far easier to find the "culprit " early.
