Hi
I have windows 7 ultimate 32 bit. Till Sept. 17 windows update ran good. Since then when I run windows update I get Windows Update code 8024402F. I looked in internet for solutions but none helped.

1 - I changed the clock settings.
2 - I ran microsoft's fixit.
3 - I stopped the update service and renamed SoftwareDistribution folder and started the service again.

I'm out of ideas.
Thanks

Please run an MGADiag report - it may point to a couple of areas for work...

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

solution to update error 8024402F

After days of trying to find out whats causing the problem, I found out that an update to .net was the culprit (KB982670). I uninstalled .net and did a check for updates. When I installed the update, afterwards I would get the same error. After uninstalling again .net and hidding the update, It works fine eversince.

Wow, awesome. Thanks

I had to do a repair install of Windows 7 Ultimate (which Windows Update and moved onto SP1 so I had to download a W7 SP1 DVD. The repair worked fine and fixed the other problem but Windows update stopped working.

Installed updates did not show KB982670 as being installed but I tried uninstalling .NET4 anyway, rebooted and bingo, Windows updates work again. Thanks for this.

I'm posting here cos I've gotten this problem in XP and Windows 7 - And it is the same cause and same fix.

Delete ALL of your Dot Net 4 installations, this includes "Extended" and "Client Profile" - It will want you ro reboot, but don't do it, try WU again after you uninstall these, it should work.

I ran across this in Windows XP, and that's what was the root cause of it.

But I could not understand, why I just did an "In Place" install of Windows 7 on a machine that was getting updates - I had to do it because my Boot sector had gotten messed up, after the "upgrade" I noticed that I was getting a message "Dot Net 4 needs to be repaired" - It repaired then I rebooted, and NO updates after reboot.

So I just thought, what if the same thing causes this error in Windows 7 as in XP, and Bingo, it was.

Take out ALL dot net 4, do not reboot, then try WU again, if it works, update all including dot net fixes - Then DOWNLOAD the stand alone Dot Net 4 client profile. Don't install it until you've cleaned your system out with ccleaner and Yamicksoft Windows Manager using "1-click clean" - Then try installing dot net 4 again, if it still updates after that, all good, but if not, then delete the stand alone dot net 4.

I don't know why dot net 4 causes this, but it does. it's error number

8024402F

I don't know if the error number is the same in XP, but in XP removing the client profile fixed it.

OK I see 'RinceWindz" came to the same conclusion, but just for identification's sake, its the Dot Net 4 so-called 'Fix"

I finally have an Intel machine that has more than 8GB of Ram.
My ASUS M2N-SE AMD Windows 7 machine is back to Windows 7. Replaced the AMD 4400+ CPU and maxed out the RAM (4GB).
My Core Duo machine is only 2GB of Ram and it is locked to Windows XP in order to run Pro Tools 6.4, which I have been using since 2004.
I have one other Dell OptiPlex 980 tower, Identical to this one,

Thanks ! same problem - solved

windows unknown error 8024402f when checking for updates.

I also tried many solutions including new clean OS installation but none worked.
As soon as I uninstalled .net 4 and installed .net 4.5, updates were available again
thankyou for all the details, they were extremely helpful.

Uninstalling .net 4 worked for me as well

After days of trying to find out whats causing the problem, I found out that an update to .net was the culprit (KB982670). I uninstalled .net and did a check for updates. When I installed the update, afterwards I would get the same error. After uninstalling again .net and hidding the update, It works fine eversince.

After hours of trawling the net and and running reg fixes, removing .net 4 client fixed the problem.

Very well done!

[sloved] wow

Hello all
I've tried a many way to fix this error but no way!!
the best way I used :
1- open your browser and type in google search : what's my ip
2- copy your ip address
3- go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center
then at the left press on CHANGE ADAPTER SETTING then right click on your network connection
( Ethernet or wi fi ) and go to properties
4- go to INTERNET PROTOCOL VERSION 4 (TCP/IPv4) double click on it
5- on the PREFERRED DNS SERVER type the ip address that you searched for on google
press OK and join your update :D
