I have received this error code for about 3 weeks. I installed SURT. I ran scannow and verifyonly, both did not find any integrity violations. I also tried disabling my firewall to install the updates. I appreciate your help in solving this.

The error code indicates connection problems rather than anything else - let's have a look at some of the other logs.

Please upload the C:\Windows\Windowsupdate.log file

Open Event Viewer
click on the Windows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.
Now click on the Application entry - wait while it loads.
Click on 'File' in the menu bar and select Save...
Save the file as Appevt.evtx
Repeat for the System log
then zip both, and upload them.

I removed all the programs that seemed to cause the problem. I remove Bonjour, did I need to remove all the apple products? Restarted the computer, same result. I included a new copy of the event files to see if there is anything new. I appreciate your help.

I can only find this error now - all others appear relatively minor...
Code:
Log Name:      System
Source:        Microsoft-Windows-DistributedCOM
Date:          26/05/2014 17:59:48

Task Category: None
Level:         Error

Description:

 to the user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM SID (S-1-5-18) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.
</Event>
This appears to relate to the IpBusenum.dll file/service.

Unfortunately, this is one of those errors where the related KB article is very little use
Event ID 10016 ? COM Security Policy Configuration

The best I can come up with it this...
Please open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands.

REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\IpBusEnum
REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\AppID\{344ED43D-D086-4961-86A6-1106F4ACAD9B}
REG QUERY HKCR\AppID\{344ED43D-D086-4961-86A6-1106F4ACAD9B}
REG QUERY HKCR\AppID\IPBusEnum.DLL
REG QUERY HKCR\CLSID\{C97FCC79-E628-407D-AE68-A06AD6D8B4D1}

post the results, and we'll see what I can see ;)

Progress is good! Here are the query result. I had to split the results into 3 files to meet file size requirements for the forum.

You could have put all of them in a code box, or in a Notepad file - and compressed it - and it should have come out less than 10KB :)
I should have posted my usual instruction set...

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

...anyhow - back to what you found...

All of that looks fine to me - or at least it's the same as on my machine.

I'm not sure where to go next...
Ah - I can't see the C:\Windows\Windowsupdate.log file I asked for?

There's a couple of error there that make me think that the download control is corrupted. I think we need to clear the SoftwareDistribution folder.

You will lose your Update history (but the updates will still be installed, and viewable in the Installed Updates listing).

Open an Elevated Command Prompt
Run the following commands

NET STOP WUAUSERV
REN C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution SDOLD
NET START WUAUSERV

reboot
then wait 10 minutes, and open Windows Updates, and run a Check for Updates.

Install only the oldest update found - and reboot once installed
then go back to Windows updates and install the others.

I cleared the SoftwareDistribution folder and followed your instructions. Still the same error code. Do you want me upload the logs again to see what happened? I appreciate all your help Noel.

I cleared the SoftwareDistribution folder and followed your instructions. Same error code. I then disabled my firewall (AVG) and tried again, same error. Do you want me to upload the event logs again? I appreciate all your help Noel, Thanks.

Today I tried to install the updates and received a second error code: 80072F78. Does this help diagnose the problem?
I appreciate all your help Noel. :)

Again - it's a connection problem....
here's the 'literal' translation....
ERROR_WINHTTP_INVALID_SERVER_RESPONSE
It means basically that the signal isn't finding a server where it thinks it should.
You need to check out your Internet Options connections tab - make sure that any proxy settings in use are correct, or disable the proxy and try again.

Forgive me Noel, I don't really know what I need to change with the server connection. I have high speed internet. Just tested the speed and I have 47 Mbps down, 12 Mbps up. I also reset my modem. When I checked under my internet connections, it is set to automatically detect settings. Are these updates that important? Or should I just ignore them?

The one you're looking for is the proxy settings. For most people these should be totally blank
