The XML extracted from the wuredir.cab failed to load into the DOM

Either the Windows Update Agent [WUA] is damaged/corrupted, some of
it's files are not present or registered properly or, 3rd party software
or malware is interfering with the update servers.

Try installing the WUA according to the steps laid out here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/blog...showentry=1172

Suggest you install the WUA by first opening an Elevated Command Prompt
[ right click cmd and choose Run as administrator ]
Stop the Windows Update service
Install the WUA
Restart the WU service
Exit the Command Prompt
Restart the system

If no joy, then look to the installed sec software [including 3rd party
firewalls, popup/cookie blockers that are included in 3rd party
toolbars, IE add-ons, etc] as the culprit.
If still no joy, then do an online scan to see if malware is causing
this behavior: http://www.kaspersky.co.uk/virusscanner

I got this same error on a clean Win 7 install, but updates were working 1 hour previous. In that time I installed MS Office, AVG Free and Google Chrome, as well as changed the default browser to Chrome. Changed the browser back to IE default, and updates are working fine again! Hope this helps someone.

Hi all
you can open network and sharing Center, view your active networks, set network location and change from Home network to Work network Ok and restart it ok 100%.

We accidentally installed 64bit Windows on a machine and ran into this issue. Installed 32 bit and Windows Update successfully checked and installed updates. I had not seen this posted anywhere else so I thought I'd leave this here.

I know this is an old thread, but so am I. :D

I just finished an install of Win7 HP 64bit, and ran into the the same issue the with error code 8024402F when attempting to run WinUpdate. What worked for me was to first update Internet Explorer from version 8 (which was on the install CD/DVD) to version 11. It was a lengthy process (I thought the PC had hung up, because the progress bar wasn't moving for over 10 minutes), and once the update had finished downloading, I was prompted to reboot the PC. Not only did it update IE to version 11, it also updated some other portions of Win7, because after the reboot, WinUpdate worked fine without errors.

Win7User1956 TY SIR!! I was stuck with windows update hanging at download, deleted contents of download folder and was left with error code specified in topic. Ran the standalone IE11 installer and upon reboot WU is working properly.

I know this is an old thread, but the problem is alive and well...
So I was getting this error on the wireless network, I switched to wired network, and it works just fine.
