Hello all,

First of all thanks a lot for this forum and its helpful and devoted members.
So here I am, with the terrible "9C48 code: windows update has encountered an unknown error" (sorry for the approximate translation...).
The update I'm trying to install is "Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 for processor x64 computers" (58,4 Mo).
Although I already use Internet explorer 11.0.9600.17280, there's still, according to Windows update, an update to do but which fails every time I try.
I run a fresh clean new install (just formatted my computer), tried WindowsUpdateDiagnostic, Microsoft Fix it, System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) and SFC Scan.
Enclosed the CBS.zip, though there are several "CbsPersist_2014xxxxxxxxxx.zip" I had to delete as the file was too big to upload :-/
As my friend Georges would say, what else? Thanks for your help !

SFC appears to have corrected a few pending files operations - and CheckSUR was clear
There's no obvious problems in the background data from the CBS.log file, or CBSPersist file.

Please post the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file, and we'll se what that has to say.

Hi NoelDP,

There are three options in the link you posted. Which option shall I use?
I tried the first one, which resetted Windows update history, but the problem is still here, even after a reboot: Windows update is still showing the IE 11 update, which again, fails when I try to install it :(
Shall I try option 2 or 3?

Cheers,

Go for Option 2 first - if there's no change after that, then use option 3

Hello NoelDP,

Nope, still not working.
Tried option 2 and 3, but this failling update still shows in Windows update.
I wonder if i should not just give up, hide it from the available updates, and forget about it.
After all, Internet Explorer 11 is up to date and working properly...

Unless you have another idea in mind?
Thanks.

<working on it>
back when I get some time to play!
In the meantime, hiding it is possibly the optimal solution (but expect it to re-appear on a regular basis)
