Ok well im new to this forum and if its in the strong section please by all means move it... anyways here is my problem

I try to run windows update it gives me error code "0x80072f8f
it says to change the date and time
If you receive Windows Update error 80072f8f while checking for updates, your computer's date and time might not be the same as the date and time for the online Windows Update service. Your computer and the service don't need to have an identical date and time, but if they vary too much, it will prevent you from checking for updates.
To change your computer's date and time

  1. Click to open Date and Time.
  2. On the Date and Time tab, make sure that your computer's date and time are correct. If they're not, click Change date and time.
    GetContent.aspx
If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  3. In the Date and Time Settings dialog box, do the following:
    • To change the date, under Date, click the left or right arrows to find the current month in the calendar, and then click the current date.
    • To change the time, under Time, double-click the hour, minutes, or seconds that you want to change, and then click the arrows to increase or decrease the value.
  4. When you've finished changing the date and time settings, click OK, and then click OK again.

I change my date and time and run the update still no luck...

i ran a diagnostic to

1) Have you run one of the built in troubleshooters?

2) How is your internet set up - ethernet, wireless?

3) Have you recently installed any new hardware, drivers, or software, or anything?

Hello Welcome to SF,

You could try this

  1. Click Start type regsvr32 Softpub.dll /s in the Start Search box, and then click OK.
  2. Repeat step 1 for the following file names:
    • regsvr32 Wintrust.dll /s
    • regsvr32 Mssip32.dll /s
  3. Reboot the System once
If that didn't help

Go To Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Troubleshooting > System and Security > Windows Update see whether it fixes

Hope this helps,
Captain

Just to eliminate any possibilities, set your time server to time-b.nist by selecting the Change Settings button on the Internet Time tab of Date and Time Settings. Check the box for automatic syncronization and then select the button for Update Now. Once that is done, make sure that the BIOS is set according to the internet time on the desktop.
