If you install it but don't set any time zone from out the place where you live, it has no impact whatsoever on your system security setting. Its just to update DST (daylight saving time), might be only useful for those that are businesses travelling.

Thank the gods that there's a sevenforums, because the Microsoft site is distinctly uninformative - about everything.

I wish I knew why this was released outside of the usual Patch Tuesday schedule. According to the KB article that derekimo linked to, the time zone change doesn't even happen until October 26th. They could have easily waited until Tuesday, October 9th to release this.

The Time Zone Updates are Important for good reason - and need to be installed (although it's not an urgent task!).
Timestamps created with the affected region could be significantly off-whack - enough to result in failures of encryption and/or certification, unless the update is installed. This could mean simple failure of a login, or it could lead to more general browser failures.

The recommendation is to install them as soon as convenient (no rush, though! unless you use sites in the affected area) - but they should definitely be installed. They should NOT be hidden!

Hi,

my laptop (Toshiba Satellite L830-10V with an SSD Samsung 830 256GB instead of the HDD) was working perfectly until the 23rd of September. I installed the update KB2998527 and I turned it off. Since then, the laptop is very slowly. I runned the benchmark AS SSD and the result is a 319, a very bad result (it was 717 the last time I runned it, in June).

As the only thing I changed in the laptop was the installation of this update, i must guess that this is what dramatically changed the performance of my SSD: is that possible? has anybody else had the same problem?
Thanks in advance for any help

Guido
