Windows update over and over again each time with new stuff.

I did a clean install of Windows 7 and have been having something odd on Windows update.

Secunia Personal Software Inspector also says Windows 7 in insecure and that I need to update.

Secunia says I have a system score of 85%

It is telling me that Framework.2x 3x and 4x are insecure and I need to update, it says Silverlight is an issue as well.

When I run Microsoft update I keep getting different things that need to be updated. The first time it was in the 80's which was expected. Then it was like 6, 12, 4, 18 items needed updating. I think I have run update 20 times and each time there is something that it says it needs.

I am a little confused by this.

Since the last post I have run update twice. Right after making the last post it said there was 1 important update. I installed it and rebooted. It then said I had 17 important and 1 not important updates needed.

Very confused.

Hi,

That sounds normal to me.....it took a good few go's (about 4 or so) for Windows to eventually pull down the SP1 update on a test PC the other night.

Stay patient and keep those updates going.

As long as you do not get the same updates all over again, there is nothing to worryx about.

The updates come in a certain sequence as they had been originally released. Sometimes updates can only be installed when previous updates have already been done.

I recently reinstalled a Win7 on a friends system and had to deal with over 260 updates. The process took 3 days - and that only because I kept looking for them. Else it would have been even longer.

I am not sure what that buys you. It is a lot of work for little gain. I have 6 systems and they are all different - depending of what they are used for.

The reason I was thinking identical is to use the same docking stations and both for roughly the same job.

I can do my job all on one computer easy enough but it would save a little time each day if I had them in two locations.

The biggest issue is downtime. I got very very far behind on work when one of my computer started having issues. It will take me several days to get current again.

I know now I could have recovered with backups but I think it would be helpful to have two still with the exact same things on them.

Since the storage requirements, and docking stations would be the same I think it is OK to make everything the same. I could then fix or get the second computer fixed at my leisure.

In fact if I had two indentical setups I would possibly not try and fix one of the computers myself and just pay someone to do it so I could keep working on my business.

I guess there is some sound reasoning in your logic. I do not run a business, so I can leasurely fix a system when it goes on the blink (most times one of the wife's systems - LOL).
