windows update problem - vicious circle

Hi guys!

I had the latest Windows 7 updates installed but one doesn`t seem to have installed properly.

My pc is asking to boot up and run a disc check. whilst doing that, it gives me an error and tells me it can`t do a disc check since one of the latest software updates did not instal properly.

So i go check the fixes for windows updates under the control panel, and there it suggests i restore my pc to a previous restore point. But when i try to do that, i get it cannot since there are bad sectors and i need to reboot and do the disc check to attempt to recover them.


I am not that much of a techie so I would need some help.. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Bad sectors are unrepairable and have tendency to grow in numbers.I strong recommend backup data and change hdd.

It will reset updates and reinstall the damaged one properly.
Update errors have caused several people to get erroneous run disk check prompts.

1.He tried already troubleshooter in Control Panel -it make no difference how it open -through Control Panel or through Windows Update history -the same function
2.Do you really think it make sense to repair Windows Update or anything in the system if there are bad blocks on hard disk?

Hello Shimmer and welcome to sevenforums.

First, run check disk. Let us now the results.
Disk Check - Check Disk -chkdsk

Please read that tutorial, even if you have used chkdsk before.

It didn't show a bad disk until after the updates and that problem has shown up many times over the past few weeks on the forum.

My suggestions were the best place to start and with the tutorial he could make sure of his steps doing it.
Get rid of the bad update check disk might work.

But it is only temporary solution.There is no way pernamently rid of the bad sectors -of course you can mark as unusable or even remap them,but unfortunately bad sectors have tendency to grow in numbers thus in my opinion fixing anything here make no sense.

Boot into the Win7 DVD or Repair CD Command Line by pressing Shift F10 at first screen, then run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html
You can also access the Repair Console tools including Command Line by tapping F8 at reboot if you have the 100mb SystemReserved partition:



If necessary, download and burn to CD the diag/repair CD scan for your HD to boot and run full scan: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

Try reinstalling the Update, but if it fails again uninstall or SysRestore and open an email Support case on MS WUD website.
