I have Win 7 Pro and have set windows updates to notify me when they become available for my pc. I continue to get notifications for important or critical updates for Office. I do not have office on my pc, but seems to recall that there was a trial edition bundled with the new pc.

Is this why I keep getting the notifications? I do have Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer 2007 and occasionally see an update for it?

Thanks for any insight,

Frank

The Viewer apps are sufficient to trigger the updates - which should normally be installed.
You may want to consider uninstalling the 2007 version and installing the 2013 one, which may have a better detection regime.

Thanks for the responses LayBack and Noel.

I have updated Poweer Point Viewer to the most recent version. Still not quite sure if I should always update the Microsoft Office updates as they are presented for my pc?

If WU is detecting updates as being necessary, they probably are - even if only on a 'what-if' basis.
When you decided not to use the pre-installed Office, did you uninstall it completely, or what?? (check the Programs listing to make sure)
There are one or two other things that install parts of Office (what they are escapes me at present, but the various Viewer programs are obvious examples), and which will cause similar detections.

Noel,

Thanks once more for your insights; I guess that I will install the Office updates when notified to do so, even though they may not be completely necessary. I no longer have the trial bundled Office that was installed on my pc, but from your comments Power Point Viewer is most likely triggering the updates. I do recall being notified of updates specifically for Power Point Viewed separate and apart from Office?
