Solved Windows Update service unable to start, Error 0x8007277a

My original network printer can not print and then I found the window update can not start. I have tried other procedures without result. This simple procedure solved my problem. For saying "Thanks to Archer", I registered in sevenforums. Thanks again.

This is fantastic. My original problem was that I couldn't print, because the Print Spooler service wasn't working. So I tried to have windows fix it automatically, but it couldn't do that. Then I found out Windows update was broken, and that the BITS service didn't work. I ended up spending hours on Google and the Microsoft forums. They all told me to try and mess with various things in the registry, none of which helped. I'm kind of curious what caused this problem for me. I'm assuming it was some virus I accidentally downloaded, which is why I suspected there might have been registry problems. Do viruses often target winsock? If so, why? Just in case I have to deal with this again in the future.

Edit - I did this on Windows 8, in case anybody is wondering.

Hi, Welcome to forums.

This could be an issue with third party winsock. You can reset winsock. Here's how you can do it.

1.Click the Windows Start button.

2. Type Cmd in the Start Search text box and press Ctrl-Shift-Enter (keyboard shortcut to run Command Prompt as Administrator). Click Continue to allow elevation request.

3. Type netsh winsock reset in the Command Prompt shell, and then press the Enter key.

4. Type netsh int ipv4 reset in the Command Prompt shell, and then press the Enter key.

5. If you use ipv6, type netsh int ipv6 reset in the Command Prompt shell, and then press the Enter key.

Note: you may need to run Network Diagnostics afterwards to "repair" your connection after this.

This solution solved 3 (that I know of) problems I was having. Task Scheduler would not run tasks on my system. It would say something like, unable to run task on remote computer. MS Outlook would not download email. Windows Update would not run. Thank you for this fix. I have been racking my brain for weeks trying to figure out why services would not start.

-Tobin
