I had to reinstall windows and I ran a restore from a backup I made and I think that might have messed up Windows Update. I know there's a way to delete the cache or data folder and make Windows Update like new again if that makes any sense. Or reset it? I just forget how. What do you suggest? It's been checking for the last 20 minutes. I ran a few troubleshooters from Microsoft and they said they fixed it but they didn't.
I got error 80080005 and I'm checking online to see what to do right now. I did a CMD prompt and I stopped wuauserv and did this:
rd /s/q %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution.old
I also downloaded a file from Microsoft to fix Windows update. And I even left the thing on to check for updates for a good hour. But all it does is have the little green line move left to right saying that it's checking for updates and I'm sitting here waiting. I think I'm going to download the Tweaking.com Windows Repair tool.
What's weird is that "System" says I have Service Pack 1. Am I just impatient or is this an actual problem? I restarted my PC and it's been checking for the last half hour.
