Windows Update Taking Forever

Hello. I recently upgraded from XP to Win7 Pro 64 and did the typical updates after the install was complete. After the second round of updates and reboots, the updates started taking forever to complete. Forever being literally one hour for just two updates and the system is stuck on "Creating a restore point..." My connection is consistantly 6 mbps so I don't believe it's my net connection.

I looked at the View update history and noticed a failed update for "Update for Windows 7 for x64-based systems (KB974431)". Currently, it has taken 30+ minutes to install the Security Update for IE8.

I don't know about you all but this update has been a major pain in the caboose.

Many thanks.

Start it over.

Use System Restore if necessary.

F8 to last known good config if it won't start.

If it still won't start, boot into Installer>Repair console and system restore before the updates.

Worked by restore. Thanks and happy thoughts for you. :D
