Windows Update To Wrong Drive???

I think windows update might have been applied to the wrong drive, and I need to check that windows update is in the "right place".

Kind of a long story but here goes:

I cloned my boot drive onto my second drive.

I booted up from the second drive.

I decided that I don't want to use that second drive as my boot drive, and that I will format it (maybe tomorrow)and use it as storage.

I went to shut down my box. There was a notification saying updates were available. I specifically chose shutdown, and NOT install updates.

It installed updates on to the second drive (the one I no longer want to use as a boot drive) anyway. :-(

So last night the updates were installed on to my boot drive that I intend to format and turn into a storage drive. Meaning they were not installed onto the drive that I intend to KEEP as my boot drive.

Any thoughts on whether this is going to cause problems?

No. Just boot from your original drive and check for updates. Windows won't find them on the drive and will redownload them and install them onto the drive that you want to use.

One more question:

On the second drive I see the first 100MB is an EFI system partition (since this is a clone of my first drive, and that had a 100MB EFI partition as well).

If I right-click that EFI partition, it won't give me any options to format or delete the volume.

Can I format the second partition (the Primary Partition) on that Second Drive and leave the EFI partition on there?

Or would it be a bad idea to have two drives with EFI partitions on them (the first would be my actual boot drive, the second would be a data drive but with that EFI partition still on it)???

NOTE: I just pulled the Sata cable off of the second drive (which was a clone fo the primary drive) to ensure that the box is booting SOLELY off the first drive, and it boots up fine.

Since you have unplugged that drive you wish to format and you are still able to boot into windows then yes you can remove that other 100mb partition since the boot records are in the correct place on the drive you wish to use for the operating system now.
