My father's computer is UNABLE to update...and always has been this way. Infact I had to download SP2 for his Vista computer from a 3rd party site. On top of that I had to go into Safemode JUST to install it for it to work. And even after getting SP2...his windows update is still fake and does not work. We can click it for hours and it wont do anything. The microsoft update site does NOTHING either. It either errors or just does absolutely nothing. There was hundreds of threads in here but I don't think one of them is one that is this. This has nothing to do with Windows 7, I bet if he installed 7 it still wouldnt work. Right now he can't upgrade anything even if he wanted to, his computer needs more RAM and other things. But he's been on Vista for along time. He has issues day in and day out and Microsoft is NO help. He hasn't found any help online or anything. Even I have searched for months on this matter. And have found nothing at all on it.

probally because you have used the same key more then once and only the first machine to actually have windows on it gets the updates

If it was installed on another pc or even if the other system was broken down it will not allow updates or service cause i guess you could say it would go by what was installed and reconized sent info when the first updates took effect

so in turn you might have a copy of windows that was from someone else installed

Hi! Anti-Mac, welcome to 7F :)

Are you aware of any error codes.....Such as 8007000b, and it would help if you could describe your Dad's machine a little better.
