I have Windows 7 SP1 x64 Ultimate installed.
For some reason my Windows Updates started failing with error code 80070034

I ran Sfc /scannow and it bombs out at 8% with the error "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation"

From the CBS log, these are the errors listed:
2011-02-24 14:02:04, Error CSI 0000005b (F) STATUS_DUPLICATE_NAME #843818# from CFileInstaller::CommitChanges(...)[gle=0xd00000bd]
2011-02-24 14:02:04, Error CSI 0000005c (F) STATUS_DUPLICATE_NAME #843817# from PrimitiveInstaller::CCoordinator::FinalizeChanges(...)[gle=0xd00000bd]

I tried changing the computer name, the workgroup name, installed Windows6.1-KB2484033-x64 (The Windows Update preparation or fix update?)

Renamed catroot2.
Could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks for the help!

Hi, ImpetuousRacer.

The System File Checker tool needs to be run as Adminsitrator. If you did not use an Admin account, please try again. You may also want to run SFC in Safe Mode (Restart your Computer, tap F8 until the startup options appear, select Safe Mode).

If no luck with SFC completing, I suggest you run chkdsk. See this tutorial for instructions: Disk Check.

Follow with a shutdown/restart and then run the Microsoft Fix it in both default and aggressive mode to reset the Windows Update components.

OS
Windows 7 & Windows Vista Ultimate
Ran file checker in safe mode, failed at same spot with same error.
Ran Chkdsk - Same error after
Ran Microsoft Fix-it - Restart - Same error after
Ran Microsoft Fix-it advanced - Restart - Same error after

All done with admin privileges.

Although a long-shot, perhaps when the same name, there was also an IP conflict. Release and renew of the IP address might solve the problem. Personally, I'd recommend a DNS flush as well. The following will release/renew the IP address as well as flush your DNS cache and restore the HOSTS file:

Please copy/paste the lines in bold below to Notepad:

@Echo on
pushd\windows\system32\drivers\etc
attrib -h -s -r hosts
echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS
attrib +r +h +s hosts
popd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset all
netsh int ip reset all
shutdown -r -t 1
del %0

Save as flush.bat to your desktop.
Right-click flush.bat and select "Run as Administrator". Your computer will reboot.

I actually already did. It was Windows6.1-KB2484033-x64 that I listed in the first post, I didn't remember the official name of it.

I truly appreciate all of your help on this.
