Hello, first post and I really liked the Vista forums, so now that I have W7. :)

After reading through various threads I've come to the conclusion that each computer has its own unique set of issues even though among 3 systems they can generate the same error code. This may require a different approach for each as I understand.

Between these two errors I'm getting, the first one I've seen on here several times, the second I have not. 800B0100 and 8024200D. I followed all the generic options outlined on the site, as none of them have worked.

I just got this system 2 days ago. My question is, are these critical updates? They are in the important column. Do I really need these? And if I don't install them, what are the issues that may arise?

Thanks,
Sid

When specifically are you getting errors? WU errors in general don't leave much room for interpretation, for what it's worth. Both of these would indicate a signature trust problem, so you may have logs in your event log about not being able to download the latest CRL, for instance.

Also, HP is only right on LDR non-security updates. I can come up with a dumb statement too: "security updates are vitamins, not medicine, and you should take your vitamins" ;)

Hello, first post and I really liked the Vista forums, so now that I have W7. :)
Between these two errors I'm getting, the first one I've seen on here several times, the second I have not. 800B0100 and 8024200D. I followed all the generic options outlined on the site, as none of them have worked.

The first one error relate to issue with firewall/3p security software or damaged components in Packages/WinSxS folder.Leaving/ignore it doesn't make sense because in future you will have problems with other updates too.

First check suggestions from this thread http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/84295-unable-update-error-800b0100.html

if it doesn't work do two things:

1.Run cmd.exe with elevated previlliges (right click on cmd.exe as admin) and type:

sfc /scannow

when it finish,create sfc report

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

on your desktop appear sfcdetails.txt

2.Run Readiness Tool Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2,this tool will create CheckSur.log files in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder,it will help us with analyzing which components are corrupted and prepare solution proper for you (similar method i.e here http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/104761-unable-install-updates-because-800b0100.html)Both CheckSur.log and sfcdetails.txt attache to post
