Solved Windows Updates/Internet Explorer

Can anyone tell me if Internet Explorer is required for getting/receiving Windows Updates? I seem to remember someone telling me when I first got a PC that that was the case, but I don't know if it still pertains!
I am running Windows 7.

Vista and up (Win7/Win8) do not require IE for Windows Updates - and XP didn't require it either, so long as you were content to use Automatic Updates without manual checks.
