Ever since February 2011, whenever I install windows updates, my volume slider in the tray stops working. Not only the slider but also the right click context menu.

I did some research into last month's (April 2011) round of updates and narrowed it down to being associated with Office 2007.

Then today, I tried for updates again and the same thing happened. BUT, I didn't choose any that had to do with Office 2007 at all.

This isn't a crucial situation. I really have no problem disabling updates all together. I just want to know WHY.

I've done everything imaginable, from un-/re-installing sound drivers, removing Office totally, uninstalling ALL 3rd party software, and even a clean install of Win 7 x64.

Here are my Specs:

Asus G50V Notebook
Windows 7 x64 (Version 6.1 Build 7601 SP1)
Office 2007 (Version 12.0.6550.5003) SP2 MSO (12.0.6545.5004)
Realtek HD Audio Driver 2.59 x64 (Version 6.0.1.6101)

If you need more info, just ask. I need to find out the why so I can move on with my useless Windows-based life. :J

Thanks guys!

I wonder whether this has something to do with the sound drivers actually,

Does the problem repeat using the default Windows ones? or is it specifically with the Realtek ones?

Yeah, it happens with Realtek & Windows. I even tried installing the original driver that Asus issued in 2008. Also tried the Windows driver from that same time. Nada.
