Hi!

I have had no new Windows Updates since Aug 2016. I now get a message within a few minutes of first logging onto my computer that it has to restart in order to install Windows Updates. I restart the computer but no updates have been installed.

I am unable to run SURT. When I try to run the Installer, I get a message asking if I want to install Hotfix for Windows KB947821. If I say Yes, the install hangs because the Hotfix update fails. If I say No, the install terminates.

I ran scannow and have attached the log file. I had to split the log file into two due to size. I have attached the CheckSUR log files.

I have also attached a Word document with various screen shots.

Can you please help? Let me know if there is anything else I can provide to help you out.

Many thanks!

....Lina

Hi Fornelli,
In that case i think were gonna have to run this command again, from an elevated command mode

REG LOAD HKLM\COMPONENTS C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS
REG DELETE HKLM\COMPONENTS /V PendingRequired

then try updates.

are you using a tune-up utility, or registry cleaner??

Hi torchwood

The first command ran -- "operation completed successfully". However, I get the following error message with the second command: "The system was unable to find the specified registry key or value.".

I do have CCleaner loaded but it's been a while since I've run it. I'll go do that now. Is there anything else you recommend?

Thanks!

Hi torchwood

No worries! I appreciate all of the help you're giving me with this!

Yes, I do have KB3072630 installed.

No, I do not have the GWX control panel on my pc. I checked the Uninstall Programs section in the control panel and I searched my c: drive using windows explorer. Nothing.

Ok, I downloaded GWX and cleared the cache. I checked the history and everything was gone. So I tried to install all of the failed and pending updates using the Microsoft Update Catalog. For most of the updates, I got a message that the updates were already installed. There were two that were not applicable and one was not found. I checked the control panel for updates and got this screen. I checked the installed updates and they are showing up as being installed (except for the three that were n/a). So I restarted my pc but it got hung up. I did a hard reboot and I'm still seeing that screen in the control panel for updates. And there is still no history.

Hi Fornelli,
Thats a new one on me:o, Installed but still showing as pending:confused:, usually only happens on a WSUS install.

Change windows Updates to NEVER

then can you uninstall ALL of them using command prompt like we did before for kb2973351.

wusa /uninstall /kb:xxxxxx

REBOOT

run the windowsupdate troubleshooter.
(it will ask you to turn on WU please do so)

check for updates any offered.

Hi torchwood

I changed updates to never. I uninstalled all of the updates originally showing as pending or failed but later showing as updated. I rebooted. Note that updates was set back to always update -- not sure how that happened. I ran the windows update troubleshooter. The update history is still all blank. I'm still getting a message to reboot to install important updates.

I tried again, this time with updates set to never (I figured out what I did wrong). I've uploaded a word doc with screen shots from the troubleshooter.

One thing I noticed was that KB2952664 was still showing up as installed, even after I used the wusa /uninstall /kb:2952664 command. I had to use the uninstall from the control panel. Also, this installed version was just the plain "windows update", not the "for x64-bases systems" version.
