Shawn,
Unfortunately, I can't seem to find the you described in "Here is HOW" the right click on a computer didn't have the Device Installation setting in the pull down menu. I went back to the obvious Windows update settings and now changed to "check for updates but let me choose what to download and instal"
To my dismay iy still doesn't work - what now^ This thing drives me crazy.

Microsoft should have a better way of dealing with such issues.
BTW I appreciate your efforts!

Hello,
Neither method seem to work at this time. So, for now I opted for more drastic measure that is to stop Win 7 update forever the path: Control panel/system and security/Adm Tools/services/win update/stop!

I'm hoping that Win 7 will notify me about updates and than I'll choose whether to install or not. Because the settings in the Win update area ignored my request to let me choose by myself.

I thank you guys for your help for now and will see what develops. I might be back yet.

MS support services should be able to help me with this issue for free.

Hi Brink,

The previously applied solution "Works" only in terms that will not prompt me and will not attempt install updates in failure every time I shut down my computer - which is very annoying. But this setup will notify me about updates. That was the case today I could download and install all the updates except the MS Lifecam HD 5001. Of course I had to open and restart System security/Adm tools/services before the updates and instalation could take place. Afterords close the gates again. I relize that is not perfect solution but it has to do for now.
Any comments--

Thanks and Cheers BRINK

Fich,

I'm not sure what else you could do either since the "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them" option is not stopping them.

HI BRINK,

I'm an idiot! This feature that you brought up I use a couple of years ago and forgot about it totally. It was in front of my nose. I can select with it, what program i want to install or not it is very basic and very functional. I just noticd it again yesterday - Hurrah!

Thanks a lot Brink!
Have a good day Fich
