I just turned on my computer and found that Windows had installed nine updates without my say so despite my setting to let me choose whether to download and install updates. I rechecked my settings and they still say to let me choose. Can Windows do that? And how to I stop it doing so?

Thanks.

Which updates?
Some updates are forced - but I'd be surprised if there were nine of them within the past 6 months!

Noel, I promise you that I get that many in any given month. I've had as many as 11 at times. And I only download the "important" ones. This download yesterday did both important and recommended ones which increased it.

I can't explain it. I only know it happened. A friend says he gets that once in a while also even though he sets his machine to "let me choose" as I do.

No matter. He also told me how to turn off downloads entirely and check for updates myself. I should have thought of that. Probably not the wisest thing to do but it's a thought.
