Windows Vista support ends today.

I switched straight from XPSP3 to 7 a few months ago, and I'm still trying to get around the UAC. By the time I found about about the Hidden Administrator, I forgot what programs I was trying to install.

It's frustrating to have permission to run an zipped installer, and then be denied having it unzipped. I would lower it only temporarily to install 2 particular programs. UAC's there for a reason.

UAC was one of Vista's great additions, I could finally run as a single User rather than the two you had to use for the awful Disneyesque XP, Due to it's stupid lack of security

I've never disabled UAC in Windows 7. One extra click has never bothered me. And the programs I trust and run frequently - I have a shortcut in the start menu which points to a scheduled task to run the program with Admin privileges. It means it won't throw up a UAC prompt every time I open that program.

Have to be honest though, I did disable it in Vista as I found it a little too aggressive (due to my lack of knowledge about it back in the Vista days). Although, that was the whole point of it. But it was nice to get more control over it in Windows 7.

I have UAC set to Always Notify. It takes me only one or (if I'm half asleep) two seconds to see what program is associated with the popup, then click on yes or no.

It may seem like a hurt in the donkey but UAC is there to protect you. It lets you know when a program or process is being started up. That way, if you did not initiate the program or process starting up, you can block it. I also keeps a program or process from starting up unnoticed if the computer is running but you aren't attending it, such as when grabbing a snack, answering the phone or doorbell, taking a bio break, etc. and keeps the startup on hold until you can determine if the process or program starting up actually should be or not.

NOT ENOUGH ROOM TO LIST ALL HARD DRIVES HERE. Cuts me off at 5. Did you know that if you run a network you can scan your PC for viruses via other PCs using several different virus scanners? No virus scanner gets it all. This is narrows down the window for contracting a virus. By using multiple operating systems you can use different virus scanners with no risk of conflict.

Same here. I like the prompts (just not the desktop dimming which I disable). I'd rather have UAC to prevent me from accidentally clicking something. It just takes a second to confirm the prompt anyway.

Vista was the OS that gave us Windows 7, Never forget that - Barman58

And W7 was the OS that removed much of Vista's customisation.

The biggest problem for UAC in Vista was the 5 second wait each way... it was surprising how long that seems. Five... four... three... two... one... CLICK... one... two... three... four... five.

Microsoft still supports XP & Vista - for Business users who are prepared to pay for it, (less so for Vista than XP of course), so all that Microsoft have done is released the specific patch which was released to the paid channel back in march with the rest of the OS updates

    Other Info
NOT ENOUGH ROOM TO LIST ALL HARD DRIVES HERE. Cuts me off at 5. Did you know that if you run a network you can scan your PC for viruses via other PCs using several different virus scanners? No virus scanner gets it all. This is narrows down the window for contracting a virus. By using multiple operating systems you can use different virus scanners with no risk of conflict.
