A clean install can be done with a upgrade dvd, results in a much better OS, and sometimes takes less time (even reinstalling programs) than does an upgrade.
An upgrade looks like Windows 7, feels like 7 and smells like 7, but under the hood you will still have all the old problems, including virus, corruption and the bloat that came with the original OS. Trust me, and 95% of the members of this forum, do a clean install.
