I'm helping a friend putting vista on his system and this happen to me beforewhen your doing the updates and it comes along the service pack 1 and then it keeps wanting to download and install that same update there should be a service 2 pack but I'm trying figure what I did last time to fix it

I seem to remember having something similar to this happen.

Have a read at this... it was all a while ago,
Problems clean installing make me think MS really do want to kill off Vista.

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file
