Bought this asus laptop new December 2011 - used very little - everything time I am on broadband check for updates as it wasn't updating automatically. Then started getting warning that operating system wasn't valid so went through the procedure to authenticate it with the license number on the underside. Turned the laptop off with shut down the other night and now it won.t boot up windows. It says uploading windows files and then goes two a blue screen with a small bird, squiggles etc. A large cursor is there but nothing else.
Have tried repair and it just goes back to same screens, it won.t boot up to Safe Mode Have tried various F buttons and it just keeps going back to blue screen.

This laptop was bought from Argos - 12 month guarantee - is this a warranty thing or, as the laptop itself appears to be working ok will they say it is software and not their problem?
Or is there anything I can do tos rectify it.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Can you get to the Advanced Boot Options Menu (Safe Mode Menu)? If so, try Last Known Good Configuration (advanced).

Any chance you can take a picture of the blue screen with a small bird and post it here using a digital camera? I've never heard of anything like that and would like to see exactly what you mean. Once you have the image saved to your computer, click on the Paperclip Icon next to the Smiley Icon. In the Manage Attachments window, click Browse and navigate to where you saved the image and select it.
Click the Upload button.
Close the Manage Attachments window.
Click on the Paperclip Icon again and select the image you uploaded. It will be placed in your post.

Have tried changing boot order to CD-RAM and also tried USB Rescue (this kept coming up with an error when trying to write iso file to Kingston usb flash drive)

I think I have tried everything now - always the same screen appears when attemptin to get in to safe mode, safe mode with networking, restore to previous point, created bootable cd - tried to create usb rescue disc.

Not sure what else to try

Then try writing the Win7 installer ISO to flash stick using Steps 1 and 2 in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Boot the flash stick to do repairs, rescue files or if necessary Clean Reinstall by tapping the Acer F12 one-time BIOS boot menu key at boot, choose USB stick to boot.

Try also running Acer Factory Recovery from boot: Acer Support: Frequently Asked Questions list for Recovery media and Restoring a system to factory load

You said in OP you have an Asus, now I see you posted specs saying it's an Aspire. Have you contact Acer tech support which is included free along with a full parts and replacement warranty for one year?

Hello
Thank you for your help. I think I will contact Acer on Monday and see what they have to say. Apparently I should be able to access erecovery with Alt and F10 during start up but this doesn't work either.
It is still under warranty so it is best that I try them.
