Brand new hard drive Samsung spin something and I installed Windows on it was working great until I shut the computer down and then started it later (it restarted just fine). Now I can't boot into windows anymore, I have gone to my BIOS and made sure the bot priority was right. I cannot system restore or startup repair it just blue screens and shuts down.

This is a desktop, x86 64bit OEM, Biostar T Series MB, AMD phenom x4 955 3.2ghz...

I cannot install windows when booting from the disc...crashes partway into the installation.

This happened with my other hard drive too which is why I got a new one.

I think I need a new driver or something for my motherboard?

I just had some progress and was able to get into safe mode which has not happened before - on my old hard drive I would just keep trying to start windows and eventually it worked randomly.

Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version 6.1.7.7600.2.0.0.768.3
Locale ID 1033

BCCode f4
BCP1 00000000000003
BCP2 FFFFFA8005413730

etc....

I clicked "check for solution" and now I am stuck at a blank "safe mode" black screen with my cursor able to move but nothing to click on...

Any help is greatly appreciated, I hope I gave enough information.

p.s. I was able to Restart from safe mode and now I am in windows with a blank black screen - my Skype popped up and I have that window there but it is not connected to the internet...I can't push my windows button and get to my files or the start bar. Going to try and restart again? Still a black screen with some startup applications running. Maybe it was damaged when I tried to install windows?

You need to find the cause first. If, after following JCGriffs excellent advice, you are still unsure of the cause, please post full info as per these instructions:

I am sorry for being so bad with computers.

I do not understand how to do any of that when I cannot fully get into windows.

I need really "stupid simple" advice :o like if I need to do something in safe mode (assuming I can get there again) say push f8 on startup or w/e it is to get into safe mode and then everything after that....Im sorry!

Thank you both very much for the responses, I will do some clicking around to see if I can figure this out with the info you have given me.

p.s. I am posting on my girlfriends laptop - not my computer, obviously.

OK, no problem. We'll see if we can go through JCGriffs' advise step by step.

On your friends PC use the link JC provided to:
Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program.

JC's second link is for a program that helps you burn the memtest program (the iso file) to a cd disk. Again, this is all still on your friends pc.

Then, with a ready cddisk, go to your faulty PC and:

Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes. These "passes" take a very long time. At least 4 hours.

The good thing about this test is that it purely tests RAM and corresponding motherboard stuff. It does not use anything from Windows7.

In your testing lets stop at this point. and post back results please. The steps below can happen in a later stage, depending on those results.

HtH,
Mark

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

That is probably because of the Mac creating a MAC boot CD instead of a Windows boot CD. Can your friend with the MAC help you out with imageburning software on the mac that would boot in windows also? I'm not a MAC expert....

It has been running for almost 8 hours now....should I stop it? I don't know what to do with the information? Take a pic of the screen? What do you guys need to know?

It has done 8 passes. 10180096 errors....

Don't know what the next step is.

I stopped it and pulled one memory stick out. I have done 5 passes on the other one and got 0 errors.

What do I do now, my comp still won't start

Do I understand correctly that you had errors with two stick in, with one specific stick also and now the latest test with the OTHER stick is ok?

And your computer does not start but DID do a correct memtest on that one stick that is in now?

What is the size of the one stick that works well?

To help us out, could you fill in system spec's like described in post 4 here:http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/8-forum-rules-info-please-read.html#post256049

I ran the test with both sticks in, got a bunch of errors. Took one stick out and then ran it again with no errors. Reinstalled windows and now everything works fine.

It is a gskill 2gb memory stick.

I updated my system specs.

Thanks for the help.
