I select Open With from the right-click menu on a file. Windows won't show my KEDIT editor in the Choose Program list. I "browse" to Kedit in Program Files, select it but W7 refuses to add it to the Open With list of programs from which I can choose to associate the file. Using Control Panel Set Your Default Program produces the same result.

I have a second W7 machine where this does work so I don't know why the first machine fails. Perhaps something is messed up in the registry but adding Kedit in the registry for the filetype didn't help either (unless I didn't pick the right key to modify - there are a few keys for txt).

W7 Home/64

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Thank you.

Kedit Support told me this is a known W7 bug. W7 messes up the registry entry of Kedit. Then when it looks at it, because it messed it up, it thinks that Kedit is not installed. He gave me the fix, which worked. Now W7 puts Kedit in the Choose From list.

I'm copying it here should someone else need it:

- Within REGEDIT, navigate to

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\KEDITW32.exe

- Delete it. (That is, delete the whole KEDITW32.exe entry)

- Close REGEDIT

- Then go back and do the file association using the Browse operation
