Hello,

I am a windows xp user (32bit)

recently I bought myself a win pro7 64bit installation disc

however the only issue here is my computer is of age and runs on a 32bit operating system (picture 2)

when I finally insert the installation disc, i was prompted an error (as seen in picture 1)

I was told that it was possible to upgrade from win xp 32bit to win7 with that disc, except I do not really know how

any help or insight is greatly appreciated. thank you!

There is no direct upgrade from XP to Windows 7. The closest you can get is a "Custom install" which will preserve your data but you must reinstall all applications. You should not rely on this but as always maintain your own backups of your data.

It is always best to run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor before any upgrade or clean install of Windows 7. This will warn you of most hardware or software incompatibilities before proceeding.
Download Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor from Official Microsoft Download Center

Unfortunately you cannot convert a 64bit installation disc into a 32bit installation disc. Those are different kernels. I am afraid you need toi get a 32bit model.

Question is whether it is really worth upgrading such an old PC. Nowadays you can buy very good laptops or desktops for $300 - I even bought the laptop below for $99 - that is the minimum price of a Windows 7 license.
