To cut the long story short, I have several drives (mainly for the HTPC), but my main hard drive for my OS(s) is partitioned into 2. On the first partition I had Windows 7 64bit and on the second partition I had Windows 7 32bit. Now as Windows 7 64bit was totally clogged up with crap and having some issues, I decided to wipe it and re-install it again. I did this and all was fine for about an hour (dual boot menu still intact too), then suddenly it froze up and I lost some work that I had on the screen at the time. I was so annoyed by this that I decided to put Windows XP on that partition still leaving Windows 7 32bit on the second partition. Hope you're following this? lol.
So anyway. I went into the BIOS and changed the config from AHCI to IDE for my SATA hard drives so that XP would pick them up and install. No problem, all went well. Apart from, when everything was done, I had lost the boot menu. So now I can only boot into Windows XP and no longer have an option to boot into Windows 7 32bit on the second partition!! :(

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

You will have to run at least 3 separate startup repairs with separate restarts to get Windows 7 booting and get the Windows managed dual boot menu back; if you want the Windows 7 partition to become the "System" partition mark that partition Active first.

Also, Once you fix the Windows 7 boot...

If you can get into either the Windows 7 or Windows XP

you can use this program to tell the computer how to boot the computer.....
Just be careful with it. Just because it is a GUI doesn't mean it won't screw your computer up; but hell of a lot easier than command line.

THANKS BOTH!

Sorted. :D

Yes, it did take a couple of attempts with the Startup Repair thing. But hey, it worked! I'm actually typing this to you now on my Windows 7 32bit install.

Well chuffed.

I will now sort out the boot menu OS names etc now with that BCD software.

Thanks again!

I find that no matter what speed you get you always get used to it and then want more!! lol.

To be honest mate, we had Virgin Media Cable services before and it was terrible. A whole year of HELL! We had engineers out every month of that year trying to sort out our internet connection which kept disconnecting all the time. Plus the 10mb we was on was pathetic. They even gave me 20mb FREE for a couple of months as an apology for all the problems we was having, but that was just as bad. No point giving us a good speed when the connection keeps dropping! In the end, we finished with them, sent everything back, TV, telephone and broadband and went with BT Infinity. Never looked back since. Solid connection, and we pretty much get 36-37mb download on Giganews. Upload depends on the websites we use.
We're moving soon (hopefully), and I'm chuffed that this service will also be available where we are going to. Although, to be honest, at the end of the day, as long as we have a constant connection and a 10+mb speed I'm happy! :geek:

I HAD ( I stress HAD) TIME WARNER. Cable Modem at 16 D / 512 U. I understand it was shared, but at any time of the day I was only able to pushed that thing up to 1.2 D at MOST. Paying 70 USD.

I am with DSL now with 10 D / 1 U paying half that much and actually getting the speeds I pay for.

Good stuff mate. I could live with that to be honest.
Over here I pay £65 per month for BT Vision (with all VOD packages/Gold), 24/7 FREE telephone calls to normal home lines AND 0845/0870 Premium numbers, and of course BT Infinity Broadband. Damn good deal as far as I'm concerned. The TV side could be better mind, but when you think of everything you get for your money, it's still worth it. :)

Time warner does suck years ago comcast bought them out in my area. Overnight, I mean literally overnight, the speeds increased by a factor of 4 pushing 5. Same lines, same modems, same hardware. TW is throttling their own customers.
