windows xp install question

wondering if any one can help me im repairing a older pc for a freind that has extreamly bad malware i would like to reformat and reinstall xp but dont have the oem disk the product key is still located on the top of the pc and i found a old xp disk the exact same version sevice pack 3 home edition from a dell pc will this disk work with that key

You can certainly try, but you'll probably see a message saying the DVD can only be used with the Dell OEM computer.

Download and run a full scan with MalwareBytes.

Yes, but the Dell bits & peaces will be install also.

I would first Download the liveCD & Run this is a free tool from MS:
