windows xp mode is not protected

There is a balloon saying that my computer is not protected by any firewall or anti-virus software. I have anti-virus software on the window 7 side do I need to install something else on here? Also do I update windows XP as usual in the virtual mode? I have 33 updates for it. I am using the XP mode now even as I type this.

Well, a VM much like a physical machine should have an antivirus installed. Each instance is separate from one another. I'd recommend installing Microsoft Security Essentials on your virtual instance of Windows XP.

Thanks!! So I guess I also should update the XP side too. I downloaded and installed the Security essentials and it will not conflict with the trend micro on the 7 side correct?

That is correct. As Darician said, XP Mode is like a totally normal, individual computer on your network. It needs its own AV protection and Firewall, which don't have to be same than on other computers in your network.
