Solved Windows XP Restore

I have a Windows XP computer that will not restore. It seems to go through all the motions but then restarts and displays the "could not restore" message. This happens regardless of which restore date/point I use.

No, not intentionally. The restore window shows where restore points have been made and I just pick one of those.

I believe the reason your computer isn't restoring is because you have to actually create your own restore point.I am just wondering why you want to restore your computer, do you have some kind of virus that you can't get rid of?, if that's the case you don't need to create a restore point.

Windows automatically creates restore points. I would still recommend you create one if you are going to be messing with things that might break your system. Are you using any kind of system "optimizers"? If so, uninstall those. If you have one, try restoring your computer using a system image. Is System Restore giving you an error code?

Are you by chance running Norton AV? I had this problem in the past & after a lot of investigating found out that you have to turn off Norton's Product Tamper Protection under Admin settings before attempting to do a system restore.

Or you might have a program with a similar feature & needs to be disabled before restoring the system.

Also, have you run any virus scans on your system? If so, which products did you use?

It's very important to create a restore point, I always create a restore point when I am messing with my system so if I ever mess up , I can always go back to my restore point.

This would be of no help if there is now a problem, it would be carried over in the created restore point.

What happens if you try to boot normally?
