windows7 64bit or 32bit

Hey gang, looking for some advise or answers. I just bought Windows7, it came with 2 disks, one was for windows 7 .... 64bit system, the other Windows 32bit system.
I had Vista 64bit on my system so i used the Windows7 64 bit system disk, i was informed today that i could of used the 32bit disk and gotten away from the 64 bit system. Is this tru and would i have been better off to go to the 32bit system ??
Is it to late to redo my system ??

Your Activation Key only needs to match the type of Windows you purchased, as that is all it is will work on.
Meaning Home Premium, Pro, Ultimate whatever. etc.

Whether you choose 32 or 64bit, makes no difference as far as Activation goes.
The choice is yours.


As to which one to use.

My advice would be ... If you have less than 4GB of, and have no plans on upgrading it, go with 32bit. You may be just as well off. (Hopefully you have 2-3GB)

If you have 4GB or more of RAM, stay with 64bit.


To switch between the 2 will require a format & clean install.
You can not upgrade from 32bit to 64bit, or downgrade from 64bit to 32bit.

8gb memory
542gb of free memory
processor is AMD phenom 9650 Quad core processor 2.30 GHZ

I use my computer for doing free help with infected computers that have infections of trojans,worms, and other Malware troubles.

From the link that thunder provide it sounds best to stick with the 64bit system for the large number of files i have stored for helping others!!

According to your specifications, and following Wishmaster's advice which's related to the amount of memory you have, x64-bit OS is the right choice
