Thanks for your replies. The instal did go exactly as you detailed and did of course depend upon having drivers and software available for all the periferals. I did find that I had to state that any download was for Win 7 64bit or the web just showed 32bit downloads, eg, for Open Office I cannot add more to your very detailed information and assistance whenever I neede it.
Today alas a componant of the motherboard had failed so must take it for repair. aaaaafive beeps and it's not the battery but I can see a problem with one componant which I have no idea as to it's function. Hey Ho that,'s lifr

I downloaded all that info from HP well before I started upgrading the PC.
In fact it's the second time this happened and one cause detailed was the cmos battery, so I at that time replaced it and all seemed well. I noticed a stainless steel component, which is about 1/4" (5mm) long and 1/16" diameter (2mm) with 2 wires entering it laying horizontally on the top of the motherboard on the board that seemed to have leaked a white compound and after taking the PC to my local shop they also felt this may be the cause. I will know more after the weekend when the repairer has checked it out. I'm a little dissapointed, as I was looking forweard to installing the drivers and the Serif software to get on with some of the fun side. Still you know what they say, Every good deed deserves punishing, I'm not sure whayt good deeds I've done, but I'm being punished for something!!! I'll get back and keep you up to speed when I know more.

Time has gone on and I'm now well in to using Windows 7 Ultimate.
First of all thanks to both of you and any others that assisted in upgrading and installing this system.

I did have early problem of 5 beeps as you may recall. I had replaced the battery and it occurred once more, I had no idea and felt down so I took it to local pc repair and at a cost of £40 I was tiol it was just the cards making poor contact. Was that a good lesson in doing it yourself? Yes! But I felt so down having got so far that I needed a boost. Well that was it!

Now having got it up and working, I have added several periferals, including two USB HDD's which I use to back up my system and store all files and photos and it keeps the system working well. So I add my recommendation to a great system (windows 7) and all my cameras were fond drivers as was Trust design tablet. Melrosian

Thanks for posting back.

I wonder if five beeps for your mobo (the last question I posed) points to PC cards not being tightly seated. Those beep codes are available on the web once the mobo is determined.

Wish we could have saved you the 40 quid, but glad its working well now.
