After latest system update the user login screen had disappeared. I am only one user on my laptop. Now I am in troubles: I can not login to the computer at all. In addition to that the restart/shutdown button at the bottom right disappeared too and now I do not have an option to reboot the computer in save mode.
Please help.

  1. Immediately after the computer is powered on or restarted (usually after you hear your computer beep), tap the F8 key in 1 second intervals.
  2. After your computer displays hardware information and runs a memory test, the Advanced Boot Options menu will appear.

I had tried this method a few times, no result. As I had mentioned, I can not reboot the computer. Pressed F8 with 1 sec interval on power up. No beeping sounds. It seems like the booting stops right before this beep/ melody moment.
Then I had disconnected the power and waited until the laptop gone dead. After that I connected again, hoping that system would give me the screen with recovery options. It did not. Got one option only with “Enter Continue” message. After that I got the message “Window resuming” and the final blue screen at the end without user login option. All the time I kept pressing F8 with no result.

Please boot your computer with Windows Setup Media and from Windows Recovery Environment start the Command Prompt.

Please type below command into Command Prompt and press Enter key.

The following command scans integrity of all protected Windows system files and repairs files with problems when possible.

Code:
Sfc /Scannow /OFFBOOTDIR=D:\ /OFFWINDIR=D:\Windows

Please replace partition letter D: with Windows installed partition letter. When computer boots into Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) environment the drive letter assign to Windows partition may not be C: drive letter because Windows 7, 8 , 8.1 and 10 creates a separate system partition when it's installed from scratch. The system partition contains boot files WinRE assigns the system partition the C: drive letter and the Windows installed partition will be assign any other drive letter usually D: drive letter is assign to Windows installed partition. The Bcdedit /enum | find "osdevice" command can be use to find out the drive letter of the Windows installed partition the output of the Bcdedit command is similar to this osdevice partition=D:. The drive letter after partition= is the drive letter of the Windows partition.

Have you done backups? If so, I would do a full restore from the LAST full backup before the update.
If not, this is a lesson to all to DO FULL BACKUPS OF YOUR SYSTEMS SO YOU CAN RECOVER WHEN THIS HAPPENS.

Hi Samuria, Freebooter, Snick. I got my computer back! Everybody helped me, however I am not sure what was the main root of the problem. I did the hard reset, as Snick suggested. It did not change the situation, however I had noticed an unusual activity with CD drive. I realized that I had left a CD in the slot and completely forgotten about it. I took it out, repeated the hard reset and O miracle!, I got my computer back! Apparently, the last system update changed the booting sequence. Thank you again. Nice to realize that someone out there is always ready to help!

Hi, AK6DN. I am not sure how the backup would help if the computer did not response even to the power button.
