Windows7 NTFS/exFAT

Which is exactly better for windows 7 and which will eventually be the dominant format...??
NTFS/exFAT
I did try the two just now on the same machine and the exFat seems a bit slower, where as it does not have that small amount of space taken up on the initial format...
I also noticed that NTFS allows file compression and indexing options under the properties menu...
While the exFAT does not have these selections....
Do they still apply to exFAT..?

I like the exFAT partition because it is more refined with the way the format is set up...
I will still be searching for a way to convert NTFS to exFAT...
I'm just wondering everyone's opinions....
If anyone has any experience with this, input is appreciated..

At this time, exFAT isn't really for anything other than flash drives. I've read of problems using robocopy with drives formatted with exFAT, and some issues with shadow copy. NTFS is a very modern operating system, and since exFAT wasn't designed to replace NTFS, I don't see exFAT "taking over".

exFAT is intended to extend on FAT, it will eventually have file permissions and recoverability, but probably will never compare to NTFS, exFAT is intended for removable media and is optimized for such.
