Hi firewire. May I suggest you google "Microsoft". The first hit should have a search box right there on the page. Type in.....error 0x800f0826, if you haven't done this already. I tried it and got a lot of hits pertaining to this specific error. I hope this helps. Please let me know.

If this doesn't allow SP1 to install, then consider a Repair Install to repair your Win7 first.
If you can find a Win7 installer for your version with SP1 (not slipstreamed) you can do the Repair Install and install SP1 at the same time, as confirmed by Users here.
I have been struggling with same problem for a while.
Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (KB976932) will not install. Many of the other Windows Updates installed fine, other driver updates and such install. Win 7 SP1 will not (I also see that Windows Live Essentials 2011 failed recently). I have tried downloading the SP1 file and installing it manually. No good.
I have run the sfc program a couple of times. It identifies some corrupted files that it could not repair. When I look at the CBS.log, it shows a number of files that are corrupt and not repaired. Primarily they are System32 dll files. Can these files be repaired or replaced? Why would they be corrupt?
My computer and Win 7 seem to run OK. I have had an occasional BSOD. The system was recently rebuilt on a brand new clean HD. I loaded my original source disk of XP and upgraded it to Win 7 Ultimate. There were no old files on the HD.
Any help would be appreciated.

SP1 should include any missing updates automatically.
What were the results of SFC run repeatedly from Command Line. Do you have access to Win7 installer with SP1 to do a Repair Install, or do you have a pre-SP1 installer to do the Repair Install?
Sorry firewire, I wish I could help more but have run out idea's. Good Luck
