I have been loosing space on my SSD and have tracked it down to a file in the C drive under WINDOWS . The name is "Windowsupdate" and it is a tex document. Properties show it as a .log file. When I open it I can see files going way back. My question is this. Can I copy this file to another drive, then delete all but the most recent events from the file in the C drive. Then next time just paste the latest files into the file I make on my second drive and keep it up to date from there. Hope this makes sense.

Log files which are just plain text files written by the system for recording and troubleshooting (by the user) purposes can be deleted without any issue.. The system will never use them for any critical functionality; theoretically deleting them should not cause system failure

Just to be sure, you can back up those logfiles to another drive and restore them incase something goes wrong...

Alternatively, an easier way of knowing what's in your drives by size and without having to hunt for folders yourself is it to use a program called WinDirStat (windirstat.info/download.html)
