winFS was a new Filesystem that Microsoft had planned for longhorn but it was taken out.

It is still being developed...no idea yet

WinFS is a filesystem that has been stopped from developing in 2006

It was supposed to be an component in Windows Longhorn,
but it was delayed because of the need of Microsoft to publish ther new OS as soon as possible.

Some Windows components use these technologies (such as WMP 12 and Windows Search)

EDIT: And WinFS is not actually a new file system but rather a layer to the old NTFS!

Yup, it was to be M$ first attempt to put a relational style database format on top of NTFS. M$ found out it is a bit difficult -- they should have paid Oracle for a license :devil:
