wininit.ini file activity

I received notice of a wininit.ini file been generated in C:\Windows folder. It reads:

[rename]
NUL=C:\Users\"owner name"\AppData\Local\Temp\ginstall.dll

Should this ini not be empty after the next reboot?
I searched the C partition with the date and time and there is no file to be found close to that date and time.

Done various scans for any malware but I'm clean.
Can I delete this ini file or its contents?

Do you have Avast Anti-virus? Do you have a program called WeatherPulse ?

More prudent to the matter, while I find nothing stating it's viral, I can find nothing that will detail clearly what ginstall.dll is or what purpose it serves.

Your system shouldn't even require a winint.ini to function though it should be safe to delete. ...or even better just rename it and reboot, that way if something bad does happen you can simply name the file back. (you'll also know the source)

As I said though I could find no detailed information on ginstall.dll

As I said I could not locate anything stating it was viral, but I couldn't find anything specifically identifying it either.

I'm pretty sure it's safe to delete .... NUL=C:\Users\"owner name"\AppData\Local\Temp\ginstall.dll <--- this file

Jacee - yes I do run Avast but it did not pop-up with any warnings, I would have noticed. I read the thread regarding Avast & false positive. The ginstall.dll is no longer on the puter, that is unless it was renamed?

Maguscreed - I've now disabled it by renaming the extension, rebooted and all is well. I'll watch during the next few days to see if all other progs function normal.
