Hey, I often extract batches of big files with winrar. Lately I've been noticing that winrar is only using 2GB (total ram usage) when extracting before the process slows down to clean out the memory (5-10 seconds where it stands stil) and when it's down to 1.6GB it speeds up again. I'm wondering why it doesn't use all my ram, I have 12GB and 64bit Win7 Ultimate. My Hardisk is a SSD so shouldn't be a problem. It's just annoying that it limits itself to 2GB. Any way to get winrar to use at least 5-6GB ram? I mean I have 10gb ram free that probably could be put into better use.

You using the 32 bit or 64 bit version of Winrar? The 32 bit version is limited to 2 GB of ram like any other 32 bit application, unless it is large address aware. Not sure if the 32 bit version is, but don't see why they would make t that way when they also have a 64 bit version.
