Running Win7/64x on a HTPC.
Windows Update icon looks like a missing icon, does not start.
WUAUSERV service doesn't start.
Computer Properties shows Windows is Activated.
Key is my retail key, been running fine until probably 3 months ago (computer isn't on often)
Tried SLUG, gave error 0x80080005

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)
Also, Please download the Farbar Service Scanner from
Right-click on the saved file and select 'Run as Administrator', and tick all the options, then click on the Scan button - copy and paste the report to your response.

This didn't seem to resolve anything, but I found the wuaueng.dll file, found a previous version (from a restore point), copied that version into system32 folder via repair cmd prompt, now wuauserv service is starting, but the Windows Update icon still does not start Windows update.
