Wired Internet Connection Issues. Broken NIC?

Hi all, first post here.

Today I lost internet connection. This has been happening frequently, so I called the ISP and we tried to release / renew after they reset my lease ( or something to that extent.) This time, it didn't work. I'm not even detected by the router now.

Just earlier, a technician came to my apt. and tried a few thing to no avail. Other PC's using this CAT5 and ethernet jack all get internet fine. This brought the conclusion that it is now my problem. Hardware perhaps?

This issue started on Thursday. I'm at an apartment complex and plug directly into the wall. I'm using an Atheros 8121/8113/8114 PCI-E Ethernet Controller.

Any ideas? Do I need to buy a new card?

Welcome to SF, rolfjk.

If this problem was sporadically happening, it indeed sounds like a hardware failure. This in light of the fact your other PCs work on that Ethernet cable and router. You could try swapping cards as a test with another pc. If that doesn't work, you will need to buy a new nic.

Hmm... As it turns out, it was the ISP's fault.

They changed their hardware this morning at 4am. I now have internet.

Resolved for now.

Thanks again.
